Man-Mind-Environment Hub

In April 2023, the flagship project Man-Mind-Environment Hub was launched, which is run as a part of the Anthropocene Priority Research Area (POB) by four units of the Jagiellonian University: Faculty of Geography and Geology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Management and Social Communication.

The aim of the project is to increase the existing research capabilities and develop scientific excellence in the study of human-environmental system in two dimensions: human impact on the environment in the Earth's critical zone (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere) and environmental impact on humans (human health and life, ecosystem services and their quality, i.e. environmental pollution, deficit of services, etc.).

As part of interdisciplinary (also international) cooperation, new research areas will be explored (with particular emphasis on suburban areas):

- quality of the Earth's critical zone (sources/causes of emissions/deterioration, spatial conflicts and barriers, sustainability and/or threats to ecosystem services, socio-economic inequalities, resilience and adaptability);

- monitoring and management of the Earth's critical zone;

- man in the critical zone of the Earth (reactions of the body to the quality of the environment: autoimmune diseases, depression/anxiety, stress).
